First Rhubarb!

This is the first stalk of rhubarb that I've picked this season! It's little and cute, huh? Some are already pretty wide, but this is about as tall as they get. But it's only May 1, so we're doing pretty well! I am thinking of putting together a little recipe booklet, with rhubarb facts and recipes. Maybe I should set the children onto that as a project! Another week or so and I will be inviting people to come pick. Might even have to do a roadside table this year!

Rhubarb Patch May 1

The patch... It looks a little grassy, there are some sections where we are missing some plants. Someday I might split up some of the bigger plants and transplant them into the spaces... but then again, maybe we have enough rhubarb!



Today's pickings... the first of the season. It's very short - if we had a normal patch, I would never pick it this early. But this is almost 2 pounds of rhubarb, and I only picked one stalk from any given plant! It will soon be tall enough to get some serious rhubarb!
